Preaching II

Prerequisite: Preaching I
Credit Hours: 3

Following the basics of sermon preparation and delivery in Preaching I, this course deepens the student’s understanding of the sermon and of engaging delivery. There are three components to this course. First, the student prepares sermons on the Old Testament and Epistle lessons and learns how to apply the already-learned preaching principles from the prior course uniquely to these types of texts. Second, the student reads examples of sermons from special occasions and feasts within the church year and learns how to bring the Word of God uniquely to different pastoral situations. Third, the student learns creative methods to bring an engaging delivery of the sermon to his congregation. By the end of this course, the student should have the ability to prepare and deliver sermons for a variety of occasions.
