The student will gain a thorough understanding of the theological, historical, and historical aspects of interpreting the Scriptures. The course assumes the student has completed an introductory level of Greek or the Bible in Context. The course will explore presuppositions as the student approaches the Scriptures. The interpreter will understand that proper interpretation includes the principles in the following areas: grammatical system; theory of language; literary theory; understanding of a text’s historical setting, including its relationship to that setting; view of revelation; understanding the person and work of Jesus Christ; his own personal relationship to the text; view of the world at large, including the possibility for its understanding.

Prerequisite: Greek (M.DIV.) or The Bible in Context (MAR & MAT)
